Born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, Ashley Joi comes from a deeply musical family. Her mother, a member of the iconic group Brandye, performed on over 4,000 records and earned 16 gold and platinum albums, while her father managed the group. From an early age, Ashley was captivated not only by the music but also by the business behind it.

Following in her family’s footsteps, Ashley became a songwriter and landed a record deal, collaborating with renowned artists. Her career led her to meet her husband, music legend PooBear, with whom she has co-written multiple songs—including Justin Bieber’s hit “Yummy,” which earned Ashley her first Grammy nomination. She currently owns a successful music publishing company and has secured multiple platinum records of her own.

Beyond music, Ashley is a passionate entrepreneur and business strategist. With a love for travel, culture, and personal growth, she constantly seeks new experiences and investment opportunities. As an author and publisher, Ashley has created powerful tools for empowerment and expansion. She is the author of Financially Fly: Mastering Money & Wealth for Women—a bestselling financial literacy book designed to help individuals, especially women, build wealth and confidence—and the publisher of the striking coffee table book Indigenously Black, a visual and literary celebration of heritage, identity, and reclamation. She is also the creator of the Deck of Gems Affirmation Cards, a transformative collection designed to help individuals align their mindset, manifest abundance, and live intentionally.

Continuing her mission to inspire and uplift, Ashley leads several purpose-driven ventures: The Lit Star, a talent development company that cultivates creativity and confidence in children; Joi Decor, a home décor brand that blends beauty, energy, and intention; and PooBear Essentials, a wellness supplement line she co-founded with her husband to promote balance and vitality.

Now based in Miami, Ashley is a devoted mother to two amazing children. When she’s not immersed in her creative ventures, you’ll find her practicing yoga, playing tennis, or cooking with love.
